Course Description
Course objectives: 1) To read sections of Vergil's Aeneid in Latin, and to discuss questions of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, and techniques of translation 2) To read and scan Latin hexameter verse, as illustrated by the Aeneid 3) To read and evaluate the Aeneid as an historical and literary source for Roman history and culture 4) To appreciate reading a major literary work in the original language Prerequisites: LAT 311 or LAT 312M, or the equivalent in a placement exam, with a grade of at least C. Requirements: Homework assignments, class participation and tutorials (30%), quizzes (20%), hour tests and final exam (50%). Texts: Pharr, ed.
