Course Description

We will read as many of the speeches of Lysias as we have time for from the two editions listed below. We will have a translation quiz almost every Friday (not the first Friday). These will consist of very short sight translation passages and will take only about 10 minutes. There will be two midterm exams and a final. There will be a short (5-6 page) paper. Grades will be based approximately on the following percentages: Midterms 15% each; final 30%; class participation 25%; paper 15%. The quizzes will not count officially, as long as you take them, but will be an important indication of your progress. The following books will be used. Lysias: Selected Speeches, ed. C. Carey (Cambridge 1989).0 521 26988 1 Lysias: Five Speeches, ed. M. J. Edwards (London 1999).1-85399-447-2
