Course Description
32525 MW 10-11 WAG 201 F 10-11 WAG 201 32530 MW 10-11 WAG 201 F 2-3 PAR 304 32535 MW 10-11 WAG 201 W 4-5 WAG 208 32540 MW 10-11 WAG 201 TH 4-5 CBA 4.340 The history of Greece from the end of the Peloponnesian War to the defeat of Greece by Rome (404-146 B.C.). This course covers essential developments in Greek history during the 4th century and the Hellenistic period. Emphasis will be divided between political/military history (Alexander the Great is the pivotal figure of the course) and the changing social, cultural, and ntellectual scene of the expanding Greek world. The course will consist of two hours of lecture per week plus a one hour discussion section. There will short writing assignments, a midterm, and a final. There are no prerequisites. The course counts towards the majors in Ancient History, Classical Civilization, and History and the elective or area D requirements.
