Course Description
GK 503 is the second of a sequence of four courses. When taken in the appropriate number of semesters, Modern Greek satisfies the language requirements of all colleges of the University. The aim of the course is to consolidate the grammar points covered in the first semester (GK 502) and to continue to expand the beginners' ability to write, read and speak the language. Additionally, some familiarity with contemporary Greek culture will be gained through conversation, reading of literary and historical texts and special projects. GK 503 would appeal to students who wish to improve their skills in every-day communication (especially those who wish to travel, work or study in Greece and those of Greek ancestry) as well as to those who would like to study the New Testament, modern Greek literature or culture. Students who read classics, linguistics and archaeology might take special interest in exploring Greek language's and culture's development. GK 502 is a prerequisite. Students who have some background in writing and reading modern Greek may be allowed to enroll without the prerequisite (Instructor's approval required Grading There will be daily assignments, weekly quizzes, 2 midterms and a final exam. Regular attendance is part of your class work grade. Grades will be assessed as follows: Home and class work: 20% Quizzes: 15% 2 Midterms, 20% each: 40% Final Exam: 25% 100
