LAT 398T • Supervised Teaching in Latin
12:00 PM-1:30 PM
There will be two main emphases. (1) The seminar will provide a practical overview of teaching techniques, methods, and resources that are applicable especially to introductory and intermediate Latin courses and CC courses. We'll look at the variety of courses offered, their design, and their human and technological aspects. (2) We'll discuss the state of the profession and its prospects. Why do some programs succeed and others flounder? What are the realities of academic life, including tenure and post-tenure review, and classics programs? Why are there doers and why are there whiners? Of what use, if any, are the professional organizations? Who killed (fill in the name of your favorite author)? Was Athena black or a paler shade of white? What's the job market likely to be like and how does one prepare for it?
Credit/No Credit grade only.
