Course Description

Reading, translation, and discussion of selections from Vergil's Latin epic on the origins, impact, and ideals of Rome.

Course objectives: 1) Read selections from the Aeneid in its original language; 2) Improve knowledge of Latin grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, and techniques of translation; 3) Read and scan Latin hexameter verse, as exemplified by the Aeneid; 4) Read the entire Aeneid in translation; 5) Increase knowledge and understanding of Roman literature, history, and culture.
