Course Description
We will read selections from Petronius' Satyricon, paying particular attention to "Trimalchio's Dinner Party." Among the topics discussed will be Petronius' moral view, the various literary genres in the work, and the ways in which the Satyricon reflects imperial Roman society.
Grading Policy
Grading will be based on a midterm exam, a final, class participation, an oral report, and a short paper.
