Course Description

A survey of political, socio-economic, religious, and intellectual trends during the Italian Renaissance between the years of 1350 and 1550. Primary sources include Boccaccio Decameron; selections from Petrarch; Lorenzo Valla; Antonia Pucci; Leon Battista Alberti; Machiavelli. Grading by contract: An “A” requires passing grade on all quizzes, one book review, one oral report, passing grade on two essay exams.
