Elizabeth Fentress: "Crushing Grapes at Villa Magna: The Emperor and His Winery"
Mon, November 30, 2009 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM • Art Building 1.120
This public lecture focuses on Dr. Fentress' most recent excavation project, an Imperial villa near Anagni, Italy which she has identified through letters of Marcus Aurelius. The title of the lecture refers to a unique feature of this villa: a grape-crushing facility that doubled as a theater stage for the entertainment of the emperor and his entourage.
