Josiah Ober, Professor of Classics and Political Science at Stanford University, will be speaking on Wednesday, November 5 at 4:30 in the Classics Lounge on "The Instrumental Value of Others and Institutional Change in Fourth-century Athens: An Athenian Case Study". Prof. Ober is well known for his work on Athenian democracy, including Mass and Elite in Democratic Athens (Princeton 1989), Political Dissent in Democratic Athens (Princeton 1998), and most recently Athenian Legacies: Essays on the Politics of Getting On Together (Princeton 2005).
