I’m a classical archaeologist and art historian, now working mostly on the art and archaeology of pre-Roman Italy, the history of scholarship, collecting and collections, and 18th- to early 20th-century reception of ancient art and culture. My PhD diss. (Univ. of Gothenburg) was on late Etruscan and Italic engraved gems. A much expanded version is forthcoming. I’m also the author of a chapter on engraved gems in Routledge's Etruscan World, ed. J. MacIntosh Turfa (2013). My recent projects "Classical Archaeology in the Late Nineteenth Century" and '"The Linnaeus of Classical Archaeology": Adolf Furtwängler and the Great Systematization of Antiquity" are now under publication. I'm currently working on catalogues of 18th- and 19th-century dactyliothecae (gem cast cabinets) in the collections of the University of Texas at Austin, and the Fondazione Antica Zecca di Lucca, Italy, plus a corpus of dactyliothecae in Scandinavian collections.
