Classics major Andrew Zigler awarded scholarship for research
Posted: June 10, 2012
Congratulations to AHC major Andrew Zigler, whose paper on "The Provenance of Mithras" has been selected for presentation at the 92nd anniversary meeting of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) - Southern Section, hosted this November by Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.
Andrew will be on a panel of speakers sponsored by Eta Sigma Phi, the national collegiate honors society for students of classical Greek and Latin. The society regularly sponsors panels for undergraduate research at the annual meetings of CAMWS and the American Philological Association (APA), and it awards travel scholarships to members whose papers are selected for presentation.
Andrew is an active member of UT's Gamma Sigma chapter of Eta Sigma Phi. His paper, which he developed this Spring working with Professor Tim Moore in the Department's new seminar for Classics majors (C C 375), addresses the origins and uses of Mithraism in imperial Rome.
