Professor Palaima elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London
Tom Palaima, a distinguished professor of Classics at UT, was elected a new permanent fellow of The Society of Antiquaries of London. Prof. Palaima is a well-known specialist in the Aegean Bronze Age, as well as a scholar of warfare in antiquity and through the ages and a prominent blues aficionado and Dylanologist.

On 18 May 2007, Tom Palaima, Dickson Centennial Professor of Classics and Director of the Program in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory, was elected one of 22 new permanent fellows of The Society of Antiquaries of London.
The Society was founded in 1707 and was charged by its Royal Charter in 1751 with "the encouragement, advancement and furtherance of the study and knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other countries."
To be elected persons shall be "excelling in the knowledge of the antiquities and history of this and other nations" and be "desirous to promote the honour, business and emoluments of the Society."
The Society has around 2,300 Fellows, including many distinguished archaeologists and art and architectural historians holding positions of responsibility across the cultural heritage. The Fellowship is international in its reach and its interests are inclusive of all aspects of the material past.
