Business Economics Option

The Business Economics Option Program (BEOP) is designed for economics majors who are interested in business, particularly accounting and finance. The BEOP provides access to a set of restricted accounting and finance courses in the Red McCombs School of Business, for completion of a minor in Business Administration.

To be eligible for the Business Economics Option Program, you must:

  • be a declared Economics major
  • have a UT cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher
  • have an Economics GPA of 3.00 or higher (based on Economics courses taken at UT)
  • have earned a grade of C or better in ECO 420K

The courses offered under the program are:

  • ACC 311 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting
    Prerequisite: 24 semester hours of college credit
  • ACC 312 Fundamentals of Managerial Accounting
    Prerequisite: ACC 311
  • FIN 357 Business Finance
    Prerequisites: ACC 312, ECO 304K and 304L, STA 309 or ECO 329
  • FIN 367 Investment Management
    Prerequisite: FIN 357

*FIN 377.2 Financial Risk Management is also open to BEOP students when offered. Prerequisite: FIN 367 (waived for BEOP students)

IMPORTANT: Be sure to read the prerequisites for these courses and plan accordingly!

There is no deadline to apply. Completed applications should be returned to the Department of Economics Undergraduate Advising Center, after ALL eligibility requirements have been met. Students will be contacted via email when their application is processed.
