Course Description
This course studies important aspects of the process of modern economic development. We begin by examining this process. With regard to the problems of poverty and inequality, we ask how to define and measure improvement in the distribution of income, specifically contrasting absolute and relative measures. In addition, various strategies that countries have pursued in their attempts to industrialize will be examined. The role of financial markets in economic development will be considered.
