ECO 367R • Monetary Economics
2:00 PM-3:30 PM
The class studies the theory of economies in which monetary exchange and banking play important roles, with a special emphasis on the design of optimal monetary policy. Topics include hyperinflation, international monetary systems, bank runs, central banking, the elusive link between money and output, and the effect of the national debt on monetary policy. This is not a money and banking course describing details of the current financial system, but is a search for the best way for the monetary system to facilitate exchange.
