Biography

Haiqing Xu was born in South China. His B.A. in management is from the Peking University, China (2000). After graduation, he returned to Peking University to pursue his interest in economics. Since completing his M.A. in economics in the Peking University (2005), he studied at the Pennsylvania State University and received his Ph.D. there in 2011. His research interest is in econometric methodology and his work focuses on econometric analyses of the strategic behaviors in social networks or industry organizations. He looks forward to continuing these research interests with the students and faculty at UT Austin. He and his wife are also very excited to be living in Austin and have plans to enjoy watching the NBA basketball games and fishing.

INTRODUCES THE STUDENT TO STANDARD REGRESSION PROCEDURES OF PARAMETER ESTIMATION AND HYPOTHESIS TESTING IN ECONOMICS.

PREREQUISITE: ECONOMICS 420K AND 329 WITH A GRADE OF AT LEAST C- IN EACH.

Econometrics is an application of statistical methods to the estimation of economic relationships. Students are expected to have an understanding of both statistics and economic theory. This course reveals how relationships among economic variables are discerned from data. The primary focus of this course is on estimation methodology.
