UT Economics and ITAM Conference, October 22 and 23, 2004

This fall, the Economics Department at the University of Texas at Austin will host the fourth annual joint conference in economics with the Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM). The two-day conference will take place on Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd, 2004, in the Thompson Conference Center, on the University of Texas Campus.

ITAM, located in Mexico City, is one of MexicoÕs foremost universities. Its Economics Department is recognized as the leader in Latin America. The UT-ITAM conference, which has alternated between Austin and Mexico City since its inception in 2001, is designed to strengthen the collaborative ties between the Economics Departments at the two schools.

The event will bring together scholars from both universities to focus on current research in several areas of economics. Topics will include tax policy, hiring and employment practices, international trade, education, and social choice. Assistant Professor, Beatrix Paal (UT) serves as the 2004 conference organizer.

UTÕs Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies is a co-sponsor of the conference.
