The Department of Economics at the University of Texas at Austin is nationally recognized for its research and teaching. It is the intellectual home of approximately 40 economists and 100 Ph.D. students.
On May 21st, the Department of Economics was honored to welcome the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority, Salam Fayyad, as the 2011 commencement speaker. In his commencement address, Fayyad shared how economics has influenced his career and shaped his vision for Palestinian statehood.
TEA, a student organization sponsored by the department, has four areas of focus: professional development, community service, academic advancement, and social experience.
