Limited Tech Services while UT Economics gets an upgrade
Project is making progress with very few inconveniences...
Posted: May 25, 2007
The project has made significant progress this week. Email is functioning normally. Server access is working fine. If you have questions or experience any issues or delays please contact our ITS personnel.
The work for the weekend if finished. Mail is being delivered and we'll have POP and IMAP on as the mail queues empty. It looks like all services should be back.
The heavy work is done. Cleaning up all the servers to talk to each other properly. Mark is finishing up the mail which should be back later today.
We will begin the first part of the Economics upgrades this weekend. The filer Frisch (which houses all the data, email, and web pages for the department) will be upgraded and configured in a more efficient and secure manor. When complete all services will function as they have in the past, except that the following systems will remain offline: Rochelle, Haavelmo. This upgrade will not require any changes to the normal use of the systems. Passwords will NOT change at this time.
In order to accomplish this, all services provided by the Economics Unix systems will need to be shut down for the duration of the work. Webpage, email, SSH services will be suspended. Email will be reconfigured to continue to receive mail, but no checking or sending of mail will be possible. We are planning on beginning this work on Friday after 5:00pm and have it complete by Tuesday morning.
If work is complete early a notice will be posted on the website www.laits.utexas.edu/eco when work is complete.
