The Economics Department is pleased to announce its selection of undergraduate economics majors Jeff Yuanteng Li and Wenqian Zhang for the 2011-12 Edmund Thornton Miller Endowed Presidential Scholarship.

The Edmund Thornton Miller Endowed Presidential Scholarship was established by the Board of Regents of The University of Texas System on November 30, 1998, for the benefit of the College of Liberal Arts. Gift funds were provided by Mr. J. W. Bartholow, Jr. of Dallas, Texas, a 1940 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering, Mrs. Mary M. Bartholow of Dallas, Texas, a 1946 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts, Mr. Edmund H. Miller of Dallas, Texas, a 1950 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering, and Mrs. Emily M. Wells of Houston, Texas, a 1942 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts. The endowment honors Mr. Edmund T. Miller of Austin, Texas, a 1901 graduate of The University of Texas at Austin College of Liberal Arts.

The department chooses awardees based on a set of fixed criteria and other factors, including academic performance and commitment in the major.  In addition to excelling in their coursework, both Jeff and Wenqian are involved in the departmental honors program and are members of the economics honors society, Omicron Delta Epsilon. Jeff is also a dual major in biochemistry.

We would like to express our appreciation to these generous donors for giving us the opportunity to support and recognize our outstanding students. Congratulations to Jeff and Wenqian!
