Salam Fayyad Excellence Award
Posted: February 1, 2013
The Department of Economics is pleased to announce the creation of the Salam Fayyad Excellence Fund for Economics. This endowment will support an annual award to a high-achieving graduating senior in Economics. The endowment was made possible by a generous donation from an Economics faculty member. The endowment honors Dr. Salam Fayyad, who received his PhD in Economics from The University of Texas at Austin in 1986. Dr. Fayyad is the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority and was named a Distinguished Alumnus by the Texas Exes in 2008.
For the annual student award, the endowment agreement specifies that “[t]he recipient must be classified as a senior in his/her last semester prior to graduation, whose previous hours in residence applied toward an undergraduate degree have been at The University of Texas at Austin and who has the highest overall GPA in a comparison group.” The first award of $2,500 will be given in Spring 2013.
