Buentello, Analicia C.
Current Position: English Teacher
Where are you working now?
I have been a fulltime English faculty member at Estrella Mountain Community College (AZ) since August 2001. I received my B.A in English from The University of Texas at Austin, minoring in Classical Civilization. I received my MA in English from Texas A and M International University, where I minored in Psychology, which also came in useful.
What are the challenges of the job?
I am a strong believer in innovative teaching, such as active learning and learning communities. I am currently experimenting with service learning in my Chicano Literature class. I sincerely hope that the activities my students engage in will not only strengthen their ties to their culture, but also instill a burning desire to become politically involved within their community.
While my teaching emphasis revolves around English Composition and Chicano Literature, I also teach Nineteenth Century Women's Literature, and hope to eventually teach a Gothic Literature course.
My previous experience includes teaching Developmental Reading and English Literature at Laredo Community College, as well as working in the college's Learning Center as a writing tutor.
What else do you enjoy?
Besides teaching, reading and writing, I enjoy my family, '80s pop culture, painting, photography, Mexican folk art, and my cat, Riker.
