Course Description
In this course, we will be reading seven contemporary American fiction writers whose narratives represent the contemporary American scene, roughly 1960 to the present. The writers include Philip Roth (Goodbye Columbus), Toni Morrison (Sula), Don DeLillo (The Names), Lorrie Moore (Who Will Run the Frog Hospital), Michael Chabon (a short story collection: Werewolves in Their Youth), Marilynne Robinson (Housekeeping) and Cormac McCarthy (All the Pretty Horses).
Grading Policy
Three take-home examinations Exam #1: 25%; Exam #2: 30%; Exam #3 35%
Class Participation 10%
Attendance: Students are allowed three unexcused absences during the semester. Additional absences may affect a student's course grade.
