Course Description

This Creative Writing course focuses on the mechanics (structure, narrative voice, dialogue, character development, etc.) within selected fiction, allowing you to study the different elements you will use later as you write your own short stories.

Grading Policy

Students will write several technique papers and one short story (each 6-10 pages) that we will discuss in a workshop setting. For each student story discussed in class, you will write a detailed critique (1-2 pages). The Final Portfolio consists of your original and revised story, as well as your various technique papers. Attendance is required.

Classroom participation/Critiques/Quizzes: 30%
Technique Papers/Story/Final Portfolio: 70%

There will be no final exam.
