Course Description

This course will consider the relationship between Mexican-American literature and the social conditions of its production, mainly concentrating on novels written between 1967 and the present. Topics will include: literary form and cultural nationalism during the Chicano Renaissance, post-movement critiques of nationalist aesthetics, and the impact of immigration in the shaping of the Mexican-American experience.
