Course Description
Meeting time, location: http://tiny.cc/UTAustinGradEngSpring2010 (Official course schedule)
This is a workshop course focusing on the fiction generated by the members of the class. Each student will be expected to present three pieces of work, either short stories or sections of novels. Richard Ford will be in two of the early classes and we will be reading and discussing Rock Springs and Independence Day. We will also be reading the work of Alice Munro, Amy Hempel, Nathaniel West and Leo Tolstoy. I expect to spend a good amount of time thinking through the radically different demands novels and short fiction can place on the writer. There may be some in-class exercises.
