Course Description
Students will be expected to write four short stories and to read a number of texts for class discussion. One story by each student will be critically discussed by the class.
Grading Policy
Your stories: You will be completely free in the choice of subject matter and the choice of form. What Henry James called "the test of execution" will be the focus of our discussion. I make one exception from this freedom of choice: science fiction, in which I have no interest.
Your final grade for this course will depend on:
1. The quality of your work
2. Class discussion
3. Regular attendance
There will be no final exam.
Texts
Two course packets, one of short stories and one of essays. The assigned stories and essays should be carefully read, and you should be prepared for a discussion of them.
