Course Description
In this course we will study and practice the craft of writing poetry. There will be wide-ranging discussion of the nature of poetry, accompanied by readings of poems by modern poets and analysis of the poems. The main effort will be the writing and discussion of poems by the members of the class. Appreciation, criticism, and revision will be an important part of this effort. The instructor will provide samplings of texts for distribution to the class. The students themselves will provide copies of their own poems for the class.
Grading Policy
The instructor does not have a policy of grading every poem submitted, but at any time a student can ask for a grade or grade-estimate. More importantly, the instructor will provide spoken and written commentary. There will be a final project of 10 poems from each student. The final grade will be based on this project and the semester's work.
