E 322 • Development of the French Film

This course is designed as a survey of the major French film directors from the 1930s to the present. It aims at presenting different cinematic styles and techniques. In addition, the films are treated as cultural documents which speak to us about particular social, literary, historical, and anthropological aspects of French society through the years. Attendance to films required.
This course will be taught in English.
7 short essays (650-700 words each) on each of the films screened 50%
2 Exams, one mid-semester, one on the last day of class 40%
Class participation 10%
