Wed, November 4, 2009 • 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM • Parlin 201

A talk by Jeff Dolven from Princeton University

Reflections on reading for the style in the court of Henry VIII, along with a theory of style itself, and some tips on how to escape from it.

Jeff Dolven is Associate Professor of English at Princeton University where he teaches poetry and Renaissance literature. His first book, Scenes of Instruction (University of Chicago Press, 2007) was awarded both the Isabel MacCaffrey Prize of the International Spenser Society and the Robert Penn Warren-Cleanth Brooks Award. His scholarly essays have appeared in such journals as Modern Philology, Raritan, Spenser Studies and ELR. In addition to his contributions to numerous edited collections and an edition of Hamlet (Barnes and Noble, 2007), Dolven has published his poetry in publications including the Paris Review, Hopkins Review, Yale Review and TLS. He is currently working on a book about ideas of poetic style.

This event is sponsored by the Department of English and the Center for European Studies.
