David Wevill & Michael McGriff

Wed, November 10, 2010 • 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM • Ransom Center Prothro Theatre

A reading by our Professor Emeritus & alumnus.

The Michener Center for Writers and the Department of English will sponsor a November 10 reading by our poetry professor emeritus David Wevill and MCW alum Michael McGriff to celebrate a new U.S. edition of Wevill's collected works edited by McGriff.

DAVID WEVILL's To Build My Shadow a Fire contains poems selected from over 1000 pages of work previously unknown in the U.S. This volume, the latest of over a dozen in Wevill's career, sheds new light on one of the most enigmatic poets of the postwar generation. A Canadian born in Japan and educated in England, Wevill has been a teacher, editor, and translator in Austin for forty years.

An alumnus of UT's Michener Center for Writers, MICHAEL McGRIFF edited this important collection by his mentor Wevill. A 2010 Lannan Fellow and a former Stegner Fellow, McGriff is the author of the poetry collections Dismantling the Hills (2006) and The Sequence of the Night (forthcoming from Copper Canyon Press).
