The English Department's Poetry and Poetics Interest Group presents a reading by Fady Joudah and Ghassan Zaqtan on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in UTC 3.124.
Fady Joudah is a practicing physician of internal medicine and an award-winning poet and translator living in Houston, TX. Among his translations are two poetry collections by Mahmond Darwish, If I Were Another and The Butterfly's Burden. Published earlier this year by Yale University Press, Like a Straw Bird It Follows Me and Other Poems is a selection of Ghassan Zaqtan's most recent poetry translated by Fady Joudah.
Palestinian poet Ghassan Zaqtan is the author of ten collections of poetry. He is also a novelist, editor, and filmmaker. He was born in Beit Jala, near Bethlehem, and has lived in Jordan, Beirut, Damascus, and Tunis. He returned to Palestine in 1994 and now lives in Ramallah.
