Common duties for TAs mentioned in policy statements include the following (or a selection of the following):
Attend lectures
Attend your discussion sections
Read textbook/assignments
Take attendance (in discussion section and/or lecture)
Take class notes
Maintain office hours
Conduct review sessions
Administer quizzes (in section and/or lecture)
Grade quizzes and homework
Grade essays/papers
Write quiz or exam questions
Proctor exams
Grade exams
Maintain class records (attendance and grades)
Meet with professor and/or other TAs regularly (once a week, once every other week, after exams, etc.)
Compute final grades
Check email regularly
Communicate with students on-line
Post to course web-site
Prepare a discussion section policy statement
Submit example of in-class activities and methods for leading classroom discussion at the end of your spring semester
Show films/videos

In addition some faculty members have specific written policies regarding
-grading criteria, procedures, and turn around time<> -meetings designed to coordinate and calibrate grading scales
-tools used in the compilation of grades (Excel, etc.)
-faculty visits to observe TA discussion sections
-TA responsibilities toward students with disabilities (UT policies for students with disabilities, proctoring special exams, etc.)
-TA responsibilities with regards to student athletes (procedures for making up missed work, classes, etc., in keeping with UT policy)
-TA responsibilities and resources with regards to students for whom English is a second language
-what TAs should do in cases of suspected cheating
-TA administration of make up of assignments or exams
-how TAs should deal with difficult or (let's hope not) abusive students
-how TAs should deal with grade complaints
-techniques for leading discussion section (often recommendations rather than policies)
-if TAs might be asked to present a lecture based on the faculty member's notes, if the faculty member is unable to be present (due to illness, family emergency, etc.)
-the use of the Undergraduate Writing Center
