Wayne Lesser Wins Outstanding Graduate Advisor Award

Professor Wayne Lesser has won the Outstanding Graduate Advisor Award offered by the Graduate School. He has served in this position for five years, and has agreed to continue next year. Poised between the needs of the graduate students, the demands of the faculty, the rules of the Graduate School, and the stresses of the profession, this is a position in which missteps are easy, but Wayne Lesser has made none. He has administered our large program (currently 147 English PhD students and 16 Creative Writing MAs) with rigor, fairness, sensitivity, keen intellectual insight, organizational brilliance and exceptional creativity. His role in recruiting and closely mentoring good graduate students is essential to the health of our department, and we are delighted that his excellence has been officially recognized by the University.
