Michelle Ty and Ishan Chakrabarti
Michelle Ty has been named a Dean’s Distinguished Graduate. She is our leading undergraduate researcher, our most seasoned presenter at conferences, and a superior teacher of writing. She is a triple major in English, Philosophy and RTF, with a minor in Women’s Studies, who has brought together all four interests into a truly interdisciplinary intellectual whole. She has also worked for the last five semesters as a consultant in the Writing Lab, and as a Writing Mentor in classes across the campus. She has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA during her four years here, and has won every merit scholarship for which she was eligible, including an Endowed Presidential Scholarship.

Ishan Chakrabarti, who is an Asian Studies and English major, is one of this year’s Dean’s Distinguished Graduates. He has won numerous awards, fellowships, and prizes including, most recently, induction into Phi Beta Kappa, and an all-campus UT Undergraduate Research Fellowship that enabled him to conduct manuscript work in India. He has also won COLA scholarships, a Presidential Endowed scholarship from English, scholarships from the South Asia Institute, and two thesis awards, one from COLA, and the prestigious Rapoport-King Thesis Scholarship. He reads, does research, and works comfortably in eight languages.
