"Poetry, Voice, and Performance: A Symposium"

The Creative Writing Program kicks off April's National Poetry Month with a symposium considering the communities and mediums of live poetry.

 


Symposium Description:

9:30-11:30: "Voicing Poetry's Communities"
Professor Lesley Wheeler of Washington and Lee University and Professors Susan Somers-Willett and Meta DeEwa Jones of The University of Texas will present the poetry communities they study in relation to voice and performance.  Followed by panel discussion, moderated by Professor Thomas Cable.

11:30-12:30: Lunch provided.

12:30-2:00: "Reading Vs. Performance: A Demonstration"
Panelists will demonstrate the various embodiments of live poetry through readings and performances.  Professors Wheeler, Somers-Willet, and Jones will perform and will be joined by Eunice Roberts, a professional actor with the Actors From the London Stage.  Followed by Q&A.
