The Actors from the London Stage fall 2012 residency will be held October 1 - October 7 at the University of Texas at Austin. Performances of The Merchant of Venice will be held at the B. Iden Payne Theatre on October 3,4, & 5. It will then be performed at Winedale on October 6.

2012 Pre-residency Events

Friday, 28 September

3:00pm.  Professor James Shapiro, Columbia University, “Imagining Jews in Shakespeare's England."  University of Texas at Austin, Prothro Theatre, Harry Ransom Center.  

6:30pm. "'Is that the law?' Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice."  Reception followed by 3 performances of the courtroom scene by: the Spirit of Shakespeare, UT Theatre and Dance Department, and Beth Burns of Hidden Room.  Event concludes with a panel discussion including Professors James Shapiro, James Loehlin, and Alan Friedman.  University of Texas at Austin, Eidman Courtroom, School of Law, Townes Hall.

“Creativity in the Face of Death: The Contemporary Resonance of Terezin” Co-sponsored by the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies and Texas Performing Arts.

“Creativity in the Face of Death,” a three-day symposium mixing performance, panel discussion, and photography, will explore the enduring influence of music and art created by prisoners at Terezin (Theresienstadt), the “model ghetto” created by the Nazis near Prague in late 1941 as a sham showcase to mask their murderous campaign against Europe’s Jews.
