Shakespeare Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, a substantial and growing enterprise on this campus, is dedicated to enhancing UT's excellence in both undergraduate and graduate education. It consists of several programs that bring Shakespeare to life through performance. The English Department has a strong faculty group whose professional expertise is in the Renaissance, and particularly in Shakespeare, as well as specialists who teach, research, and publish on drama from either a literary or theatrical perspective. The Department offers a rich array of drama courses at every level, and virtually all undergraduate majors study Shakespeare in one or more courses. The Department also sponsors Shakespeare at Winedale, the annual residency of Actors from the London Stage (AFTLS), the Shakespeare in Performance class in the Oxford Summer Program, and Spirit of Shakespeare, an undergraduate group which performs scenes from the upcoming AFTLS play. Some of the Shakespeare programs are coordinated with the Theatre and Dance Department.
