Course Description
This introductory course in French phonetics will provide third-year students with an opportunity to sharpen their pronunciation skills by studying the articulation of French sounds, in isolation and in context. Emphasis will bear on prosody and intonation, and much attention will be devoted to reading skills. Students will also learn the basics of descriptive phonetics and transcription techniques. Required for teacher certification in the state of Texas. Attendance policy: Three unquestioned absences. Other absences heavily penalized. Homework: Please return in class (not in my box, not in my mail). Thanks.

Grading Policy
- attendance, lab work and other homework: 10% - three written tests (the last one comprehensive): 70% - one individualized oral exam: 20% - no final examination
