FR 390M • Revolutions in Literature in 19th-Century France
3:30 PM-6:30 PM
In this course we will consider representative texts from the major nineteenth-century movements-- Romanticism, Realism, Idealism, Naturalism and Decadence-- in terms of their revolutionary form and content, with special attention to the ways in which each of these authors address the questions of gender, nation, and identity. Each weekly reading will be paired with critical texts from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
