ITL 329 • ADVANCED COMPOSITION AND CONVERSATION

This course will be taught in Italian.
The goals of this course are to improve students' skills in writing and speaking in Italian and to expand their knowledge of Italian culture. We will review the most complex grammatical structures, analyze the development of the Italian language with focus on dialects of some Italian regions through short-stories/plays/poems, and read excerpts from a novel. Students are required to attend the screening of two films. Videos, songs and two films will be used as pedagogical tools for a deeper understanding of the Italian language and culture.
Regular attendance is required. Students will be asked to come to class well prepared on the readings and the grammar exercises assigned and ready to participate in class discussions. Students will write three short compositions (the first two will have a rewriting); two longer compositions with rewritings. There will be two oral reports in class, the first one done individually and the second one as a group.
The final grade will be computed as follows: 30%: Three short compositions and two quizzes 15%: Two long compositions 25%: General oral performance and progress; oral reports 10%: Class participation, homework 20%: Two exams No Final Exam
