This introductory course in French phonetics will provide third-year students with an opportunity to enhance their pronunciation skills by studying articulation of French sounds and its prosody, both through oral practice and acquisition of theoretical knowledge.

Final exam: individual oral exam: 15%
Homework: homework may include oral assignments, phonetic transcriptions and practice with recordings online. Classwork will include learning technical aspects of French phonetics as well as the International Phonetic Alphabet and basic concepts in phonetics. This understanding will allow students to target specific areas of pronunciation: individual sounds, whole sentence concepts, to vastly improve their oral skills in French. These skills will improve in direct proportion to the practice of the individual student.
Quizzes will be in two parts: theory (written quiz in class) and practice, a recorded assignment due the day after the quiz.
