Course Description

Emphasis on the four skills: speaking, reading, listening, and writing. Texts are literary works of 19th and 20th century. French 312L is the fourth semester course which continues developing the four skills with class discussions and writing which focus on literary texts from a variety of cultures. The reading selections provide a sampling of contemporary authors from around the francophone world (France, Canada, Vietnam, Cameroun, Algeria), and a few readings from the rich history of literature written in the French language. Readings will be complemented by segments from films treating related themes. Specific course goals: to become familiar with literary and cultural expressions in the French language; to improve reading comprehension and proficiency; to build vocabulary; to increase accuracy of expression; and to improve skills in spoken and written French. Class is conducted in French. Only 1 of the following may be counted: FR 610, 310L, 612, 312L, 312M, 312N.
