This introductory course in French phonetics will provide third-year students with an opportunity to enhance their pronunciation skills by studying articulation of French sounds and its prosody, both through oral practice and acquisition of theoretical knowledge.
Homework & classwork: l0% Quizzes (avg of quizzes & tapes): 70% (NO MAKEUPS) 1 individual oral exam: 20% (final) Homework may include oral assignments to be taped, phonetic transcriptions, and practice with tapes. Assignments will be given in class. Students are encouraged to practice extensively with the audio tapes prior to recording all taped homework assignments. Classwork will include transcriptions (usually from homework), pronunciation practice, and prepared readings of selected texts. For best results, practice regularly with the tapes: classwork grade is based on attendance and participation.
Quizzes will cover worksheets, class lectures, and may include transcription from oral material. A taped assignment will be due for each chapter. Note: every class works at a different pace. The quiz and/or tape dates and assignments may be changed.
