Course Description
A study of French classical comedy (XVIIth Century), with an emphasis on Molière. History and typology of dramatic genres, theories of the comic, issues of representation, performance, and reception. Readings and lectures in French. Some criticism in English.
Grading Policy
One final paper (50%), one final exam (30%), and participation (20%).
