Course Description

The course will feature major representative examples of French short fiction – contes, nouvelles, récits poétiques – of the 18th through the 20th centuries. Each work will be situated in its time and in terms of literary & cultural history; attention will be given to formal and stylistic particularities.

Grading Policy

Notes de lecture (brief comments on & responses to the texts): 20% One 3-page commentary: 30% Final Exam: 30% Contributions to discussion: 20%
