FR 508K • ALTERNATE FIRST-YEAR FRENCH II
|33605 to 33615||Multiple Sections||
For students who have had FR 506 somewhere other than at UT. Covers same material as FR 507 with an accelerated review of grammar and vocabulary covered in French 506. Prerequisite: equivalent to FR 506. Students who have taken two or more years of high school French should take 508K. French 508K is a four skills language class, i.e. it emphasizes listening, speaking, reading, and writing French. 508K uses the same curriculum as French 506 and 507: Français Interactif, a unique first year French program developed at the University of Texas. With the latest hypermedia technology, Français Interactif helps students explore the French language and culture by following the lives of real UT students who participated in the UT Summer Program in Lyon, France. The UT students introduce their French host families, their French university, and their lives in France. In addition to following the exploits of these UT students, students also watch videos of native French speakers as well as scenes of day-to-day interactions (e.g., vendors in the market, waiters at a café, children getting ready to go to school, etc.) These video-based materials give Français Interactif an authenticity and immediacy lacking in most commerically produced textbooks. As its name implies, Français Interactif emphasizes interaction: student/teacher, student/student, student/computer, and even student/native-speaker. The goal of these materials is in its title: interaction in French!
