F C 320 • THE FRENCH HERITAGE-W
2:00 PM-3:30 PM
The course will explore several hundred years of French history--from the Middle Ages to the Revolution of 1789--in terms of the various political, military, religious, social and cultural crises in whose form the past is most dramatically transmitted to us and the problems of society most tellingly revealed. A certain emphasis will be placed on the antagonism of the French monarchy and the feudal system and on the forces of change which ultimately occasioned the revolutionary assault on the old order.
