Lecture Body-Specific Abstract Concepts: Mental metaphors with and without linguistic metaphors

When people talk about abstract ideas, they often use metaphors from more concrete domains like space. In the first part of this talk, Casasanto reviews a series of experiments showing that these linguistic metaphors correspond to non-linguistic 'mental metaphors', which people activate automatically when they're talking and thinking. The last part of the lecture addresses the question: Where do these mental metaphors come from?
